Life’s beach

Single-channel video (color,stereo sound), 4m55s, 2026

Synopsis

Exploring the fragile space between becoming more and being enough, where the pressure to remain useful gives way to the freedom of choosing one’s own rhythm.
Inspired by Zhuang Zhou’s idea of “the use of the useless,” the film reframes pause and uncertainty as spaces of transformation. As she is drawn into cycles of repetition and release, the film suggests that fulfillment lies not in becoming more, but in choosing how to move through the world.

Director Statement

After an dissappointing encounter at an ice cream cart, a young girl drifts toward a beach where a mature woman’s dancing hands mirror the quiet ritual of a hermit crab changing shells. Drawn into its spiral, she moves through cycles of repetition, before emerging with a shifting sense of rhythm and release.

Through this film, I want to explore a quieter way of moving through the world: one that embraces uncertainty, values small moments, and allows for a sense of ease within complexity.
